Addiction Counselling or treatment is centered around a person’s obsession with a physical and mental dependence on a substance or action, whether it is to do with alcohol, drugs, food, sex, etc. There are many treatments for addictions out there, and finding the right person and therapy and support is important for progress. Anger has been around forever. It is how the individual manages his or her anger that counts.

Anger takes on many guises, the main two are:

  • Overt or physical anger - where others can see/hear/feel your anger; and
  • Suppressed or internalised anger – where resentment and frustration can often be developed.

Both forms of anger may have a negative impact on your well being and on your relationships with others. Anger may hold you back from achieving your goals, dreams and happiness. It may also affect your health.

In most cases anger can be managed effectively and quickly with simple proven steps.

With Anthony Engel you can quickly learn effective coping strategies using proven methods to bring about rapid and positive change.

Anger may also appear because of other mental disorders. These may include: Impulse-Control Disorder, Antisocial Personality Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder, Psychotic Disorder, Conduct Disorder or Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder.

Generalised Anxiety Disorder is characterised by persistent and excessive anxiety and worry that can interfere with the individual’s day to day routine and overall well being.

Panic Disorder: Panic takes place when an individual experiences a sudden onset of intense apprehension, fearfulness, or terror, often associated with feelings of impending doom. When these attacks occur, symptoms such as shortness of breath, heart palpitations, choking, dizziness, and a fear of ‘going crazy’ or losing control, take place.

We now know that the ‘flight, fight or freeze’ response system is activated when the individual is faced with immediate danger. When this occurs, the nervous system triggers chemicals that set off physiological changes in the body. These may be experienced in a variety of ways including pounding heart, difficulties breathing, chills and hot flushes and more.

With Anthony Engel you can learn about how to handle anxiety.

There are also other disorders that come under the heading of Anxiety including:

  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD),
  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and
  • Phobias.

OCD is characterised by obsessions and or compulsions. The individual may feel a strong urge to double check things or go through certain rituals in order to stop or defuse anxious feelings.

PTSD is characterised by reliving or re-experiencing a traumatic event. The individual may experience symptoms of increased arousal about the event and will try to avoid any stimuli or triggers associated with the trauma.

A Phobia is a persistent fear that is extreme or unreasonable about a specific situation or object (e.g. heights, lifts, animals, injections/hospitals, flying).

Adjustment Disorder

Adjustment disorder is a group of symptoms, such as stress, feeling sad or hopeless, and physical symptoms that can occur after you go through a stressful life event. The symptoms occur because you are having a hard time coping. Your reaction is stronger than expected for the type of event that occurred.

Adjustment disorder also comes with mixed symptoms such as anxiety and depression.

Depression is a mood disorder. Symptoms of depression may include: diminished interest or pleasure in all, or almost all, activities that you once enjoyed; feelings of worthlessness, difficulty thinking or concentrating or making decisions; inappropriate guilt; insomnia or sleeping too much; weight loss or gain; feeling sad and becoming teary often; fatigue and loss of energy; persistent negative thoughts and more. Most people try to manage their low moods on their own, thinking that they are going through a rough patch and will bounce back soon. If you are having difficulties bouncing back... it's time to talk to someone. Contacting Anthony is the first step...

Loss and Grief

Grief can occur from many kinds of loss. Many people associate grief with the death or passing away of a loved one, family member or friend. Loss and grief can also include losing a job, a relationship breakdown, loss of health, trauma, children leaving home and so on. Grief is a normal response to loss. People respond differently to a loss, however there are some stages that people experience when dealing with a loss. These may include: shock and denial, anger, bargaining and questioning, sadness and low mood (depression), feelings of going crazy and more.

Personal Development

Personal development includes activities that improve awareness and identity. Personal Development will steer you towards developing your individual and unique talents and potential, it will help build human capital and facilitate employability. Furthermore, it will enhance quality of life and contribute to the realization of dreams and aspirations and more! Anthony has helped many individuals develop their potential and realise their goals. Self-Esteem / Confidence Building

People with low self esteem and confidence levels are not living happy lives. They are just existing, developing resentment, feeling frustrated and not making any real progress. By building esteem and inner confidence you will develop respect for yourself along with developing respect for others, while becoming happier with life. You will also bring about clarity of mind and inner peace. Ongoing low esteem causes anxiety, passivity, depression, insecurity, unhappiness and more. You don't have to live like this!

Stress can have a positive or negative influence depending on our interpretation of particular situations and events in our lives. As a negative influence, it can result in feelings of rejection, suspicion, anger, and depression, which in turn can lead to health problems such as headaches, sleep disturbance, high blood pressure, digestive problems, heart disease, stroke, etc.

Work Issues / Career

Uncertainty in the workplace is on the increase and many have reported that they are having difficulties remaining happy, positive and productive. Issues such as bullying, intimidation, unrealistic work demands and increased workload, etc, are causing many to have sleepless nights and or they may develop anxiety and stress. They may also feel powerless, trapped and depressed, hence leading to poor work performance, low morale and absenteeism. Managing conflict and adjusting to change and dealing with aggressive co-workers, can all contribute to poor work performance, and at times, render the employee unable to cope or continue working altogether.

Anthony can guide and help you discover what path you should explore in terms of career development. He can help you identify which courses, if any, you need to pursue and what options to consider when making decisions about your career.

With Anthony Engel you can quickly learn effective coping strategies using proven methods to bring about rapid and positive change.
