Children – Primary aged (6 years to 12 years)

Anthony Engel provides counselling services for school aged children. He has many years experience working with children and their families. He is friendly, approachable and well-liked by children of all ages and backgrounds.

Children will often ‘act out’ when they perceive that something is wrong or when they feel insecure, stressed, frightened or unhappy. Acting out can also include: wanting attention, self-esteem issues, wanting to be powerful and noticed, and so on. These may include: fighting, throwing tantrums, making up stories, lying, withdrawal, and other anti-social behaviours.

Anthony works closely with families, schools and other support agencies working with children.

Some of the issues he works with are:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Anger
  • Bullying
  • Stress
  • Adjustments
  • Self-esteem and Shyness
  • Loneliness
  • Sleep problems
  • Lying
  • Loss and grief
  • Divorce and separation
  • Interpersonal relationships
  • Social Difficulties and fitting in.
  • Dealing with rejection
  • Defiant behaviour

When children lack skills for managing anger it can lead to aggressive behaviour.

Anthony uses art therapy, mindfulness, age-appropriate cognitive behavioural therapy and other approaches to teach children appropriate coping strategies and to better manage their personal situations.

More information about children can be found under our MORE INFORMATION section.
